wallpaper from hell

I recently purchased a new home the previous owner was 90 years old and owned it from new. Every wall and ceiling has blown vinyl on it, the ceilings coming off no bother however the walls have about six coats of paint on them then backing paper underneath and some have another lot of blown vinyl in between. Friends and family have offered advice but i thought id ask the experts. Can you help? ....Please

Recommend pricking the surface and then using a commercial steam stripper.
