Wallpapering Hallway

Hi,
I'm looking to decorate my hallway and up the stairs. My wife has chosen a floral pattern wallpaper and we are unsure as to what would look better. Wallpaper above dado rail and paint below with colour from wallpaper or the other way round... Its quite a high roof up the stairs and we don't know if it will be too much of the pattern dominating. any ideas or tips??

FWIW I would avoid the floral pattern above the dado - it may well look overpowering when it covers the entire (high) walls.

I would use the floral stuff below the dado and a plain colour above.

Bear in mind you will likely want to hang stuff on the walls and they can 'get lost' in a busy floral pattern as well as it looking very 'busy'.

Just my opinion though...

Also bear in mind that large floral patterns are going out of fashion now.
