Hi. I'm greatful for some help here. I'm soon to paint a wall that has old matt emultion on it. I'm going to wash it with sugar soap first but do i need to do more?

Also, one wall with be papered. It's quite smooth so I don't need a liner but apart from a wash down do I need to prep it in any other way? With a primer or key it?

Thanks!!

Jeff

Jeff,

When you use sugar soap it is always advisable to wash the wall down with warm water to remove any residue from the soap. If the wall that you wish to paper is of a shiny appearance you should lightly sand beforehand to flat back the shine. You will also benefit from applying a size to the surface to allow the paper to be more easily positioned, you can achieve this by applying a thinned coat of paste.

Worth checking the lable of the paper as some papers have to be lined because of shrinkage and the seams opening up.

Shand Kydd papers were noted for it. Always had to line before using them whatever the surface was like.

Shand Kydd, thats one that I have'nt come across in a very long time, and yes lineing was always recomended.
