On my Bosch washine machine, the detergent drawer is line with black slime, also the door seal is dirty. Is there a 'usual' way of cleaning machines when they get like this? I was told, the slime may be due to using bio-detergents, but dont know why this should happen. Any advice appreciated thank you.

take out the drawer and scrub it with hot water in the sink. Lift the top of the softener compartment and clean out the syphon tube.

spray a "kitchen cleaner with bleach" into the space the drawer came out of and scrub it with a small nylon brush. Leave to dry and repeat. Once the bleach has killed the mildew it will clean off easier. Use a toothbrush or similar to clean the tiny holes in the roof of the space.

If you put the powder or tablet into the tub instead of into the drawer, this will happen less. the sludge is old soap and softener sludge. Do not use more soap or softener than the instructions specify.

There will also be sludge in the tub which you can remove by doing a maximum heat, white-cotton wash with NO POWDER OR SOFTENER. Put some white cotton towels in if you have them. If the water foams up you will know it is dissolving the old soap sludge.

Cold washes do not dissolve soap or gease well so it accumulates.

Use the cleaner and a sponge on the door and seal.

Open the pump filter and make sure it is clean inside. Pull out fluff or sludge with your fingers.

After use leave the door and the drawer slightly open so they can dry out. Damp encourages mildew.
