Hi,

I've just moved into a property and fitted my washing machine to the connectors left behind by the previous owners (in a cupboard under the stairs)

It looked like they have just T-ed into the pipe coming from the bathroom upstairs and added something like this https://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-hose-connector/48625?_requestid=208755 . I'm assuming there should be some sort of trap or U bend fitted as there is a bit of a lingering drain smell when the washing machine is used although there are no signs of a leak or anything. What would be the easiest way to add one? Looked at something like this https://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-washing-machine-trap-white-40mm/18640 but it looks to have the wrong connector on it.

Thanks

Thanks no problems with space. The grey pipe goes to the bathroom upstairs for sink/bath drains. Assuming I would need an adaptor to connect them as both the current pipe and all the traps I've looked at seem to have the same threaded connector (probably not explained that very well!!)

Thanks

I'd seriously consider putting a Non Return valve in the run, after connecting to the existing waste, and before connecting the Washing machine. In the event of an issue, at the moment there is a risk of an overflow from the upstairs discharge back into the downstairs room.
