OK just googled it, is the Govt to blame. I've seen it before, back to Contagion.

I will never understand the blanket denial of wrongdoings by someone they like.

They have made mistakes, I know that. Many other countries have also made mistakes. Nobody could have been fully prepared for what happened, the global ppe shortage, China's deceit, p1ss poor reaction by the WHO, the lack of understanding of what was a new and unpredictable virus. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and we all know, with hindsight, there are things that could have been done differently, could have been done better. But, can you honestly, hand on heart say that the govt hasn't tried to do their best.

Here's the thing, if the govt had done the polar opposite of everything they've done, do you not think the usual suspects on here would not still be feeding on them like a pack of hungry hyenas. They hate and despise them and will hate and despise whatever they do, right or wrong.

Example:

Trump halts flights from China, cue calls of he's a fascist, he's a racist, and he's orange, and I don't like his hair.

Boris Johnson doesn't halt flights from China, cue calls of he's mad, he's deliberately killing our citizens, and their babies, and I don't like his hair.

For some people, whatever the govt do will be wrong, end of, It just happens I don't buy into that.

No, you'll never please everyone.
But your post was dismissive of the things that have gone wrong - that's foolish imo.

As for popularity had the government handled this better, why yes, I think they would've gone up in people's approval (instead of down). Why do I think that? Jacinda Arden, that's why. Her approval rating has shot through the roof - now considered the most popular and successful PM in NZ's history.
