Water build-up in bar fridge -- what's causing it?

At the back of my Siemens bar-fridge, water is constantly building-up at the back of the fridge where there's a channel with a pinky-finger sized hole in the centre. This means that there's a regular puddle of water inside the fridge, under the vegetable-bin. Every now and then, I've cleared that hole with a cork-screw, and that retrieves some blackish-coloured stuff down there (yikes). That helps for a while, namely the water goes down the hole, however after a while, it gets bunged up again, causing the in-fridge puddle.

What's causing this? Is there some spare part, or filter, or whatever, which needs to be replaced, or what should I do? The fridge is now 8 years old.

RS

pull it out and have a look.

Usually the drain hole has a thin plastic pipe, leading to a plastic tray on top of the compressor (which is warm, and evaporates away the water).

If someone puts food against the cold panel at the back of the cabinet where the frost collects, it will get into the melt water and cause mould or a blockage in the pipe. In domestic fridges this is often blood from raw meat, or something sticky like fruit. In a bar fridge it might be from a broken or leaking container of juice or something sticky.

You have to clean out the pipe. You might still be able to get pipe cleaners from a tobacconist,or use a piece of flexible wire. Usually the plastic drip parts are removable for cleaning. If there is something rotting in the tray over the compressor you will have to clean it out.

Hey John,

Thanks for that advice. How do I pull out that plug? (What implement needed?)

Cheers,
