Hi, come home from 6 weeks holiday to find two water related problems in the house

1) Cupboard where the boiler is housed, one of the pipes had developed a small slow leak and there is now mould and damp on the wall.
Plumber has fixed the leak problems.
What is the process / way to clean up and sort out the wall from the damp? Presumable you just scrub the mould off?

2) Light water damage in the kitchen ceiling. Here there are the brown spreading patches on the ceiling. Not sure whats causing this one, its not the heating pipes above, could be the roof as its single story....but im off to investigate now. When the problem is solved, what is the best way to sort out the water damage to the ceiling.

Thanks for your advice

lots and lots and lots of ventilation to dry it out

remove cupboard doors, floor coverings, lift boards etc

and open the windows

Once it is dry the mould will become inactive, then you can apply bleach mixed in water to kill the spores. It cleans off easier when dead. You can scrape and scrub it off earlier if you want. Use ordinary household cleaners that will not damage the surface.

the ceiling stain is dirt washed into the plaster.

when it is dry you can use a stain blocker or oil-based white undercoat (it will come through water based paints) and then repaint in emulsion

but examine the plaster from above to see if it has been damaged and weakened by being wet

Genius, thanks very much for all that.

The cupboard is tiled floor on top of concrete. Ill open the window and get a heater on it to dry out.

Ive got some polyseal dampseal that ive used in a few places before to sort out where stuff had been stuck to the wall. I guess that is the right kinda stuff.

Use in the cupboard as well on the wall?

Thanks

chris
