Please can any plumber type person help us? We had a lovely bathroom fitted just before Christmas but during the months we used it since we became aware of a sound in bathroom of constant strong purring like water flowing in pipes. This only stops if we turn off water supply. Husband looked in cistern and nothing appears to be happening to cause the noise. At night and early morning it is lodesst and the sound slightly alter for a second when I turn on a bidet spray plumbed into the wall. The fitter is on holiday and cant come till Saturday, there is no sign of pooling water anywhere but there is vertical cracking in the new base unit on the bottom plinth which may not be related.
Can anyone suggest waht is going on please? We never had the noise befor the new bathroom which was totally gutted and replumbed walls floor ceiling etc. We live in a bungalow. Thanks.

Sounds like a problem with the flush valve assembly in the cistern. As the cistern fills it is constantly drawing in new water as the overflow removes it.
