in 2022 with the cold weather my pipes burst. the pipes entering the boiler iced up and froze, when it thawed the ice had caused the 2 pipes to pop out .

the boiler was full of water , I had to take cover off it to drain it .

the boiler has never been used since .
its a glowworm fuelsaver 3 .

its rusted a bit inside , would a repair man be able to recommission the boiler and get it working again? or is it dead and should be replaced .

I havent been staying in. house since it happened

I would guess it's quite an old boiler that has been stood for 3 years so it could well be beyond saving. It might be that it needs other parts rather than just rusty panels. But you won't really know until you get a gas safe engineer to look at it. He should be able to give an estimate for replacement at the same time

As above, needs to be a gas safe registered engineer capable of boiler repairs. If it's been sat idle it may work first time, but moisture could have gotten onto the components. Depending on a few things parts may be available but may not.

If you need a new boiler though, you may need a gas pipe upgrade from your meter, but engage with a gas safe registered engineer first. Just a recommendation, use a local independent engineer rather than a national company as these tend to fleece people.

fuel saver is coming on for 40 year old and if its popped pipes out as its a copper heat exchanger its more than likely split that as well when it froze . Not worth messing about with it

thanks guys , I thought that .
the boiler is old and the pipes are 10mm , and rads are old.
I want to renew pipes but lifting floor isnt option since most is tiled and other has 2 subfloors and laminate layer down .

only way under is to crawl from hall under house .
but dont think installer would do that .

so I was going to replace pipes with new ones , the old flow and return are laying on the ground not insulated (must have been a cowboy who fitted it) .

if I fitted pipes, whats best way to pressure test it ?

I also had a leak in loft , dont know where it came from , so would be renewing pipes up there . (connecting hp to lp pipes).and getting rid of the old plastic water tank .

at times like this I wish I had home insurance. lol
