I have water coming into the utility room when it rains - up to 5 or 6 litres on a very rainy day. It's coming through the floor. The driveway is on the far side of the wall and the ground level on the driveway is higher than that of the utility room.
I don't know even where to start looking for help. Do I simply need to have a dampcourse fitted to the utility room wall, or would that be expecting too much of a dampcourse? Would a dampcourse just push the problem somewhere else?
Someone has suggested digging the driveway up and getting a French drain put in, but the house is 15th century, so maybe not very deep foundations, so the French drain would need to be a decent distance from the wall, so maybe not effective.
Any help would be appreciated, even if suggesting whom I could ask to come and advise (ie I don't know whether I need a surveyor, a damp specialist, a builder etc)
Thanks!
Betti.
