I have this same problem on a Hotpoint WD640 Super Silent.

The machine worked fine for about a year and a half, now water gushes from the soap tray on the spin cycle. Ive checked the outlet - its not blocked, and taken out the pump, all fine too. I've seen some other suggestions on the web about a door seal, but solutions given weren't very specific.

Anyone have any ideas about this one?

Cheers,

The most likely cause is the bottom hose being blocked. This is the hose from the bottom of the drum to the pump. It gets blocked and the machine goes into spin before the water in your drum has been fully discharged within the alloted time scale, hence water being thrown back up the soap/water inlet hose and down the front of the machine.
First unplug the machine. Depending how yours is plumbed in you may have to disconnect the water inlet pipe and waste pipe from sink as its best if you tilt the machine so that you can get underneath also remove the small back plate at the rear of the machine. Undo the hose retaining clip on both the bottom of the washer and the smaller end one going into the pump. When removed you see at the larger end a plastic coin trap in the hose and usually with what looks like a ping-pong ball. Remove trap and clean out any materials. When refitting just reverse the above but watch out for the coin trap as it usually fits in the hose then back onto the bottom of the drum only one way, if you don't fit it correctly and you think you have tightened the retaining clip up correctly, the hose may slip off the bottom of the drum and you flood your kitchen.
Hope this helps.
