Have a water meter situated in front garden. With a cover on. A sort of mini man hole.

I want to build a planter and need to hammer in a couple of ground spikes to support planter. This is about 1 METRE away from the water meter away from the house. How much pipe work is connected to meter as I don't want to hammer and burst a pipe etc. Anyway I could find out where pipes run to?

water pipe should be a minimum of 750mm below ground.Should be enough pipe from the meter to reach the house, strange question?

The pipes can be shallower.

You could pay someone to trace the pipework or you could dig holes for the spikes. I'd get your shovel out.

Had to replace the water pipe on the exes' property for her, and it was only down about 6". And you can't trust the pipes to run in the most logical direction, as some old properties zigzaged round old obstacles. Do you know the the water pipe is iron or plastic.

Blindly hammering in spikes is like playing Russian roulette are you feeling lucky

That's open to a lot of interpertation, so I don't think I'll take this conversation any further.
