Hi guys,

Happy new year to you all.
Over the years you have helped point me in directions relating to weird building queries as a home DIY person - here is another for you!

We live in an old 1850's house and use stoves mostly to heat the property - every so often we pop the Central Heating on to take the chill off things. I've noticed when I do so I get water running down the chimney flue of a HETAS installed stove. This particular stove isnt used so the liner/chimney is always cold and its installed on an external end wall of the property - so gets cold.

I've added a photo.

Does this look like condensation perhaps?

My CH header tank which is an open type tank is near to this area. The overflow pip runs through the wall next to the chimney - I've checked the tank and its no where near at this overflow level however, still water collects at the top of the stove.

Any help and I'd be most gratful.

Many thanks,

Jon

Hi guys,

Ha

Yes it does - if the stove's not used it should have the doors open to get a good draught through and up the flue - or you'll get that condensation;)

Good point - weirdly though the water is collecting and running down the outside of the flue, rather than the inside and into the stove.
I suppose your thought would affect the tempreture of the metal and might help... Thank you.

Do others think along the same lines of Nige - its kind of where my head was at prior to his helpful comment.
