'water saving' shower head

As luck would have it our std head has just broken so we need a new one

Do these actually work or a gimmick?

if they do work is there one which is suitable for a combi boiler

yes they do restrict the flow from the shower.

but if you want to penny pinch that much just don't spend so long in the shower and don't turn the shower flow up so high.
