Looking at getting a water softener and there's timer controlled ones that regenerate every day regardless of use and theres meter controlled ones which will average the last 7 days use and regenerate accordingly.

The timer one is £100 cheaper - is it worth the extra money to get a metered one?

I may be wrong but I don't think you can have softening water on cold tap feed for drinking and boiler with the inhibitor, what about this? they have won many awards including Which's magazine and have a money back in full guarantee with a 98% success rate.A lot cheaper and hardly any running costs.I will be trying this later on but I'm having problem where to locate it at the moment!
