the water tank has leaked down onto my newly decorated landing and now there is a hole in the plasterboard - will the damp plasterboard dry so that I only have to patch the hole or is it a total re-do?

Will dpend on if it starts to sag down. If it does this and dries it wont go back. If its just a hole this can be filled with new board and filled over quite succesfully, not forgetting to treat the stain as well.
