Hi all,,

I have a stand alone workshop in my garden, approx 7m by 4m is size, built from medium density blocks...

i intend to have it rendered however one of the 7m sides is right next to next doors garage. (0.5m gap between his and mine)

to keep the costs down and becuase that particular side is not in view i would like a different soloution to waterproofing this wall,

i was think painting tar on ? like the sort you use for felt roofs etc? would this work ok or any other suggestions?

many thanks.

My workshop is similar size, built in single skin blockwork, painted with a couple of coats of stone paint, no damp.

Garage is similar construction but rendered and painted, no damp.

You are unlikely to get damp through a wall that has the protection of a nearby structure coupled with a roof overhang and gutter.

However, no matter what you do to protect the outside there is no guarantees that condensation related damp will not form on the inside face unless you ventilate and insulate the building.

Thanks so far guys,.,

inside is ventilated well,,,, unfort next doors garage is a piece of **** and no overhang.

so i wanted to paint that 1 wall with something, or coat it or whatever to keep the water from penetrating from the outside,,

the remainder of the workshop will be rendered.

It works for me. I did use paint finish blocks which take less paint. But normal blocks will just take more paint.
