We've recently moved house and during the move our sideboard has somehow picked up quite a large what looks like a waterstain.

I was wondering if i could simply sand it out, sand the whole top or just the local area? and what would be best to finish the top to save it happening again. Unfortunately i know in a house with 2 kids wet things will inevitably be left on here again.

Before you get sanding try a cotton cloth over the stain and run a domestic iron over it. The heat can vaporise any moisture left in the surface.

Agree with Footprint, keep iron moving, may take several attempts , have used this method several times.
