WBP - Weather and Boil Proof Plywood - Counter Top

Good Morning Guys.

I've just built a counter top in are new bathroom with left over stud's and
25mm WBP Plywood.

Wanted to know the following.

1. Should i seal [PVA] then tile over the counter top.

orrrr.

2. Lay AquaPanel over 25mm WBP Ply and then tile over that.

Never use PVA on a tile base; it causes adhesion problems, re-emulsifies when damp & your tiles will probably fall off.

2. Lay AquaPanel over 25mm WBP Ply and then tile over that.

If it’s unlikely to be exposed to continual wetting & just occasional splashing, you can probably tile straight onto the WBP;

What type & size of tiles are you using?

Will be using either big ceramic floor or wall tiles so there is less grout lines
and less expsoure of the 25mm WBP plywood.

Whats prep's do i need to do when tiling a WBP plywood bathroom floor.

A lot of people on the web are saying to prime the floor with pva to fill
any imperfections and seal the WBP Plywood.

I was abit worried about putting PVA on WBP as like you said when water
hits it then your gona get movement because of the PVA turning back in to
liquid type form and making the tiles move.

Whats the story's on your jobs mate and any do's and don't's.

Will be using either big ceramic floor or wall tiles so there is less grout lines
and less expsoure of the 25mm WBP plywood.

Seal the underside & any exposed edges (not the tiling face) of the ply with an SBR sealer & tile straight onto it; use a waterproof flexible cement based adhesive same as your going to use on the floor; use a waterproof flexible grout. Silicone seal around any vanity/sink units.

Whats prep's do i need to do when tiling a WBP plywood bathroom floor.

Prime the underside & edges with SBR primer/sealer before laying; what thickness is the WBP floor? Use a quality trade flexible adhesive & grout of the correct type for your tiles & DO NOT prime the tiling surface unless your chosen adhesive manufacturer specifically requires it; most don’t.

Priming with standard PVA is very bad advice & will invalidate the warranty of most trade adhesive manufacturers & using standard PVA in a wet area could even result in your tiles falling off!
