WC ball valve replacement

Next topic! I'm getting on with stuff today.

Toilet flush:

The cistern never really gets full and the valve never fully switches off. I've poked around and it seems that the bit that the ball float pushes into to stop the cistern filling is sticking. What's that called? Inlet valve? Diaphragm?

It's a ball valve type with handle operation. Bottom fill via a copper pipe. Pic attached.

Can I replace just the inlet valve / diaphragm? I've found a page stocking a bewildering array of diaphragms (here) and inlet valves (here), but I haven't a clue which one to choose.

Or is it better to replace the whole mechanism? If so, which mechanism should I choose? Seems to be a bewildering array of these too!

Success! (eventually!)

Durhamplumber was right - it was a VERY tight fit!

So tight that I had to remove the flush mechanism to remove the faulty inlet valve. But in order to remove the flush mechanism, the whole cistern had to come off the wall & pan, which involved sawing bolts with hacksaws and buying a new cistern connection kit (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NHI6V9G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).

I went for this inlet valve from Screwfix in the end, as it was a lot cheaper than the one recommended by muggles, but still had a brass connection:
