Hi all - please can anyone confirm (or correct) a really simple point regarding siting of a "back-to-wall) loo with hidden cistern.
Since modern loo cisterns operate by syphon, you could site the cistern at the same level as the pan, (ie on the floor), and it would still flush, right??

Wrong.
First, not all operate by syphon - some just have a flush valve at base of cistern which opens to let water out.

The syphon type is most common and will be around for a while yet!

Either type MUST be higher than the pan to be flushed.

If you don't believe me get a couple of buckets and a hose and have a play in the garden. If you can make a syphon work from the SAME level you just invented perpetual motion!!

Now it becomes clear :D ! (It seems I should have paid more attention in school after all!). Thanks for reply, and sorry everyone for such a dumb question!
