Well boys and girls- seeing as weather is getting colder - gonna open my box of burley magic and get the fire fitted.
Found a gas safe guy who has fitted lots of them- and loves them to bits.
He agrees with me- older gasmen dont like change. That's why they are afraid to do them.
happy warm winter to everyone . :)

Enjoy that large airvent in the room letting the cold air in this winter.
I just love the aroma of fresh air- that's what keeps me so young.
Couldn't imagine being in a room with no ventilation --it's not healthy.

Hey Pablo- you stick to making ice cream -- as in Pablos ica creama in Blackpool. I always say- concentrate on what you do best.

Do you have a question? Or are you just looking to wind people up?

I'm sure he does (assuming he isn't fictitious), he makes lots of money fitting them.

The relevant questions are, does he have one in his own house and (when he assures you that he does) can you go and have a look at it.

There were/are lots of gas men who recommended combi boilers to all and sundry because they were most profitable. However, knowing the failings of combi boilers, they didn't have one themselves.

I'm not a Gas Safe guy, but I understand that these devices rely on a catalytic converter to convert the residual CO into CO2. I also understood that catalytic converters don't work until they are at their working temperature. I also have a car on which the catalytic converter has been replaced 3 times in 4 years, as a result of it failing the MOT emissions test.

I wouldn't have one if you installed it for free.

Comments?

PS Also, I don't need one, I have central heating that was properly designed and properly installed.

Not a wind up at all. Was just wondering if anyone had mixed views on this subject. Also wondered if -since my last posts a few months ago if anyone had been brave enough to 'suck it and see' ?.

I put one in not so long back, was well impressed, it took up hardly any room in the skip.

I have never fitted any but have come accross quite a few , the usual criticissoms about the 100cm2 air vent versus the actual heat created to the room space, biggest problem I have come accross is that if the room the fire is installed in has poor insulation the condensation that the fire creates is incredibly bad and I have seen water vapour running down internal walls like it was a shower room, not wanting to contradict any manufacturers but I wouldnt have one in my own home
