longdogs

You know the ones, your page freezes while they load.
Does anyone actually look at these cr@ppy time wasters or do you just ignore them as I do.

One of our local news web sites has bloody millions of web page ads. So much so that it seems to take forever to load. I've started avoiding it like the plague.

Does Adblock work across the board or is it like ad choices where you have to keep setting it?

It's not like ad choices and I find it works on pretty much everything but, when it comes to a few sites that rely on adverts to survive, you will often get the message that you need to disable Adblock to access the page properly. It will also sometimes stop you seeing the full content or using every facility on some web pages, e.g., a website I use to watch British tv will not allow me to go full screen while Adblock is enabled and will have a message through the centre of the picture. It's weird because, if I disable Adblock, it shows around 20+ ads on the page, but then allows me to go full screen where none of them are visible!

I have many of the major culprits' domains blocked in my router: googlesyndication.com, serving-sys.com, yieldmanager.com/.net, adserverplus.com, atdmt.com, doubleclick.net etc.
