My old man put some weedkiller (weedol i think) on the lawn to kill some dandelions
Now not suprising there are numerous dead patches of grass which i'm not sure what to do with
will the grass grow back again or will i have to put some grass seed down?

its weedkiller. the clues in the name. it wont grow back!

dig out teh patches and replace

or you can rake the patches to roughen them and sprinkle on some grass seed, sweep it about to work it in, scatter dry sifted soil very thinly over to discourage birds.

the grass will spread back into the dead patches anyway in time. When it makes seeds in the summer (unless you cut it very frequently) it will re-seed itself.
