We have a huge tarmac drive, but there is loads of persistent, huge areas of weeds coming through, making it look a real mess.

We've tried loads of weed killers, sodium chlorate but to no avail. we've been told to try sprinkling lots and lots of SALT over the drive, and then watering it.

Has anyone got any tips or ideas on how to control it?

it will always happen

reason you dont see it on roads etc is due to the constant traffic driving over it, (kills them) but look at any films with dissused runways, what do you see? weeds

Try "Pathclear" a couple of times a year.

You need a glyphosate based weed killer (Roundup), this type of weedkiller take the chemical into the plant and down to the roots. Therefore killing the source.

The trouble with pathclear and weedol and similar is that they only kill the top growth. Fine with minor weeds where their roots are not very established, the plant is likely to be killed. With persistant big weeds there is too much root down there for it to be killed with anything less than Glyphosate.

You will probably still need a couple of applications to completely irradicate the weeds, depending upon the weed species. Things like mair's tail etc will be the most difficult to get rid of.

Hope this helps

I thought it was because the tarmac had been laid by our itinerant friends and the weeds hadn`t been killed with a powerfull systemic weed killer first
