Afternoon,

Our Ariston MicroGenus27 boiler has started to leak a bit of water around the cold water input connection. On further investigation it looks like the washer is disentigrating between the piperwork and where it screws into the boiler. I've tried to find a replacement washer, but nobody seems to have one the right size. It looks like a fibre washer, but appears to be green in colour. Does anyone know where I can get one of these or do you think it's an Ariston only sealing washer ? My wife is getting fed up with the sound of water dripping !! Thanks for any help,

Shaun

Its a washer used in many boilers but not much elsewhere.

If you have a problem email me from my profile and will see what I can do.

Its important not to overtighten them as that can punch them out and cause them to leak.

I always smear silicone grease on them before fitting as it aids sealing and stops them sticking.

Thanks agile,

Do you know if it's the sort of thing that I can get at my local Plumb Centre ? I Tried City Plumbing but they were less then little help !!

Shaun.

Dont know about Plumb Centre they are pretty unhelpful usually. I once went in and the three people behind the counter finished with the only customer and went off to the back to have a cup of tea or something.

A Parts Centre would usually have some in a plastic bag but I would not count on it.

Thanks Tony,

Hate to keep pestering, but do you have any ideas where I would be able to get one ??!

(Believe me, in deepest darkest devon, it's hard work to get anything, let alone a specialist washer !!!)

Shaun.

Went to two of these recently, found about 3-4 leaks on each, so now have a full set of all the valves for 2 boilers. Went back with the parts, and found one had only one leak (AAV) as I'd tightened a few things before, so that was best done up and left alone. But the other has EIGHT leaks on closer inspection.

No point fixing half its leaks so I have to go back with more bits!

Right, is this the input valve with the built-in filling loop coming off it?(which will leak at the spindle when you turn it but stop when done up).(about £20  )
Is it the connection between the valve and the pipe inside the boiler which needs the washer? If so and it's the washer I'm thinking of I expect I have a couple (of hundred)

It's the connection between the valve and the input pipe, I've managed to find a fibre washer that i've put in and seems to have done the trick, although i'm a bit concerned that the one that came out was green in colour as opposed to the normal red colour fibre washer. (Not sure if this is just because its been weeping and been coloured by the corrosion) . . .

If it works then it's OK. The green ones are just the papery things, like most others I have hundreds in the van as they are very easy to drop and lose when fitting boiler. If you are concerned, Wickes do them, Screwfix do them, in fact just about everyone sells them.
