I have an Ariston boiler in a rental property. Got a call today that boiler is not working. Central heating and hot water, both are not working. I'm getting it looked at by an engineer tomorrow. Just wondering, if there is a quick check I could do? And what could be the problem?

Install a more reliable boiler perhaps Ariston are a Disaster of a Boiler 
Well you havent given any info on type of boiler ie system/combi pressirised etc, but if its a pressurised system an easy check for the tenant is to look at the pressure gauge and make sure its reading about 1-1.5 bar if not top it up using the filling loop
Ariston are ok for mid range boilers and easily repaired when required
