Weevils - Whats causing them to appear

I steam cleaned my kitchen the other day and have since found weevils in my kitchen drawers. They were there before and I thought the steam would have sterilised the areas they would be hiding in i.e. draw joints etc. How can I get rid of them or is there something more sinister associated with their existence?

This is probably a good indicator of the dangers posed by weevils. At least if they can live, they are not being killed by stray insecticides in food products. Just don't mention it to your guests over dinner.
