wet patches on wall, suspect there are pipes

in my kitchen i have wet patches on one wall which are getting gradually
bigger. i think there may be pipes close to this area. are they leaking?
 
do i need to chip the wall back to look at pipes? there is also a chimney flue behind these wet patches, could this be causing the problem
 
You have answered your own question, check vent is sealed against rain at roof level and should be vented if no longer in use.
 
Thanks foxhole at least i don't sound like a dumb blond now when i try to get someone to fix it! :wink:
