They reduce in length, but the symptoms vary, some motors won't run after the brushes are down to 10mm others seem to go on till they get to the springs. If you are having motor problems new brushes are the first & easiest thing to try.
Thanks for the reply. I'm clutching at straws a little bit looking for the cheapest option. The brushes are still 15mm but the machine doesn't seem to want to go onto full spin, although the actual fault light is saying "Check Inlet" and the initial problem that has happened 3 times in the last 3 weeks id the leak detection. It's a Miele Novotronic premier 500, about 8 years old.
I'm not familiar with your machine, but if you are saying it goes through a wash cycle ok but will not spin & you are getting strange fault indications then there may be a possibility the brushes are arcing. As I said a fairly cheap & easy thing to replace them & rule them out.
