what are your views on this diy install ?

People are always going to buy boilers or try to fit them themselves.

If CORGI were to outlaw the ability of a registered installer to commission these appliances, it would only increase the number of unsafe gas installations.

Their remit is to promote gas safety and leaving people in the wilderness with a boiler they have bought and connected to the water is not the way to make it safe.

There has to be a way of commissioning builders installs and those of the general public. CORGI allow RGIs to commission boilers providing the boiler is hung, the flue is assembled and the gas in run by that person or another RGI.

The water treatment issue is a red herring and is not a CORGI safety related matter, it is good working practice. A good commissioning engineer will test the water quality and make any necessary arrangements.

I would much rather the gas industry fits every boiler but that is never going to happen. Agile and others must offer a service to regularise these installs, it is vital. We usually refuse, but that is our choice, I do not criticise others who play by the rules.
