These fuses were originally dual 'numbered'. I typically would rely on using BS1361.

BS88 means it can with stand breaking a very high fault current without the body cracking ( or exploding ). For circuit safety it complies with BS1361 for operating parameters ( current and time ) and for mechanical safety of surrounding equipment it also complies with BS88
