Fair enough - never having had any reason to handle straight con, that's not something I would know. What would you think it is likely to be, then - split con? (presumably not SWA, for which a cutout would hardly be an appropriate place to try to terminate it!)
[mind you, if the electrician had a 'DNO background', there's no telling how 'unfeasibly large CSA straight con', available for his future use, may have 'happened to be' in his car boot on the day he left that previous life
