Hi guys,

Sorry but what does PVA mean? Am new to this and want to learn about plastering.

PVA is Polyvinyl Alcohol, its water soluble synthetic polymer.
More commonly used prior to skimming over existing walls, some pva day before, some pva again prior to skimming while still tacky.
There are other products out now, like sbr, blue grit etc.
 
What about waterproof pva..! It says you can use it for priming for tiles on the tub.

waterproof pva is only waterproof when mixed with render to make the render waterproof if used for any other application it has the same properties as normal pva i know this because i had a chat with henkel about their unibond waterproof pva of which i have a tub, think about it if waterproof pva was waterproof on its own and not as an admixture we would all be using it as standard
