Times like this I feel like such an amateur!

OK, so I bought a spy hole for the front door which has a 14mm tube. Drilled a pilot hole no problem, then realise that I have no 14mm drill bits. Just looked on Toolstation, and none of the wood drill bits seem to come in 14mm! They seem to leap from 13 to 16mm! for example.

So, any suggestions on what I buy? Will an all round bit do the job, I should I use a flat wood one? The pilot when through very easy, seemed hollow in the middle, which makes me think a new door might be on the horizon....

eidt/update - OK,. just found this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-2609...qid=1515960750&sr=1-2&keywords=14mm+drill+bit

Best for the job? And why doesn't Toolstation sell them! Or is their site search just rubbish?

14mm forstner bit. Start on both sides, don't go straight through to avoid chip out.

should be ok then as fostner and flat/spade bits need a hole smaller than the point otherwise they dance all over the place :LOL:

If the spy hole isn't supplied with a "key" to tighten it, I use the ruler part of a combi square. Interested to hear what other people use (oh, I use the same for basin wastes as well).

Bought the Bosch one and it worked a treat. And my pilot hole was bigger than I thought!
