Can any type of domestic electrical work be carried out legally, by an unqualified person, and if so to what extent, ie. changing light switches, socket fronts and light fittings?

Also, what is the quickest qualification to achieve, to be able to fully carry out domestic electrical work.

Any replies appreciated, cheers bobert

I take it you are referring to part p? You can currently legally do any work in a domestic property, however some of the work in kitchens, special locations or to do with a special installation need to be notified to your local authority building control before you start.

Will have a read through the Part P stuff.

This might be a silly question, but does the same apply to doing basic electrical work in other peoples domestic properties?

yes, but in other peoples properties, you are responsible for leaving it in a safe and fit state for use..

you're also liable for any work you do there... so you need about a £1,000,000 worth of liable insurance..
