What film?

This one's been bugging me for over thirty years (I think). It's an old black and white film - it was old even then! The opening scene is a man and a woman on the deck of a passenger ship. It's night time and the ship's clock has just stopped. It is explained that, because they are travelling West, the captain stops the clock for an hour every night.

Now I understood that bit but then it got silly. These two seemed to think that time itself had stopped and so they had an hour in which to do whatever they wanted.   I switched off but now I'm intrigued. :? :? :? Does anybody have any ideas?

I know what I would do in that situation but if time stood still for 1 hour now, who knows.

PS Have got my in-laws, (who seem to have done little but watch films all their lives) on to your question about the name and the outcome of the film.
