need a floodlight for the drive, whats the difference between Son, mercury and metal halide. They are all similar in price. Im looking at a 70W one to link up to a photocell to have on all night for security.

thanks

Son lamps give off the orange glow and are used in street lighting (as well as sox lamps) and might be favourable for an all night application especially if there are local lighting regulations in force.
Mercury vapour and metal halide give off a white light with good colour rendering especially the latter which is a very bright, crisp light.

I have a 70W metal halide lighting my drive.

Metal halide lamps have a very bright arc the size of a pea. Consequently the light fitting can be very efficient at controllong the light output because of better opticals
