Just fitted a new towel radiator in the bathroom which is actually taller than the old radiator. The top of new rad is about 20cm higher than the feed on the F&E tank in the airing cupboard (and it's about the same height as the water level inside the F&E tank).

What i want to know is: will this cause any major issues to the heating system, and if so, what?
Or will the towel radiator just be cool at the top?

Hope someone can advise! Thanks

Could be cool at the top of towel rad!

Why are you unable to raise the F&E tank by say 600 mm?

Will also be hard to bleed and collect air frequently.

It will be impossible to bleed fully unless you back fill it.

Either raise tank or pressurise system.

Seeing as towels are hung on top of the towel rail it's going to be pretty useless as is.

Back filling won't help - the tank will over flow.

Raise the tank, seal the system or fit a lower towel rail.

Unless the header is a metre or more above the system's higher point it will be a recipe for sludge.

It will still do its duty of being a towel rail!

The rule of thumb is the base of the F&E should be at least 600 mm above the top of the highest rad!

Above the highest part of the system Tony, could be htg pipes in the loft

OP said the top of the rad is equal to the top of the water in the tank, so it is possible to bleed (assuming he is correct). It will have completely zero pressure by the time it gets to the top, but it will bleed.

Should definitely raise it though due to the other issues mentioned in the thread.
