Hi I am doing a rennovation for rads.

for windows with a full 110cm, in thinking 60cm or 70cm high rads. What do you think?

I was told radiators under windows was bad idea as thermals not naturally started to heat whole room, however it does depend on radiators, my old Myson did not rely on thermals it had a fan, so must depend on radiator type.

I know even if not best place still fitted them there, as no furniture placed in front, but used silver backed foam to stop it heating the wall and a shelf to direct air away from window. So you need room for that shelf, the thing with central heating radiators there is a compromise between what they look like and what they do, so with the Myson fan assisted where radiator in a box, it was painted mat black as that is best colour and looked very like a car radiator. Some care home have normal radiators in a box so people can't touch hot surface, inside radiator can be mat black and the box has the chimney effect.

But I have seen chromed radiators, totally wrong thing to do heat wise, but looked good, so there may well be an idea size, but often what it looks like is more important.

2 schools of thought re placement of radiators.

Radiator placed by the door as any draughts coming in underneath are caught by the radiator, and warmed.

The other is under a window as the glassed area can act as a thermal soak, making it a few degrees colder in front of the glass and the radiator warms the area in front making it 'feel' warmer. More so the larger the glass area gets. Just need to watch for curtains at the window which can impeded the convection process.

Either or, it also depends on the width available and what heat output you need. Place the bottom of the radiator about 25mm above the skirting and see what looks best.

Below windows are my preference if possible.
