What is the best bar you have ever been to?

Well in first place it had to be in Bugis Street in Singapore in the 60s, in second place one of the bars in The Square in Limassol Cyprus in the early 70s.

Yeah Svijany, thats a quality beer. They had it in my local until it sadly got new management in and now its just Staro Brno an awful beer that people in Brno even call Staro Hovno. Good that you've been out of the tourist centre to Zizkov, I lived there for about 2 years its the heart of the city, although Vinohrady is a bit smarter. Used to be a tiny bar in Zizkov called Bar 21 where I lived a short stagger from, only could fit about 10 people in there but thats my favourite ever bar. Now sadly a laundrette for the students halls over the road.

Are you in Brno? Almost went there once - bit of a motor racing town too. I recall people saying that Staro Brno is classed as Staropramen is, as being a bit second class. Though bottles of Staropramen from my local Morrisons knocks spots off most other UK lagers.

Always get out of the centre (we stay in Mala Strana), and get to proper, locals' pivnice. Zizkov has a few dozen good pubs, U Sadu (next to tower) is my favourite as thet have a good selection of quality beers and good food. Other favourites in Prague are Pirvni Pivni Tramway, U Kocoura, U Cerneho Vola, U Medvidku among others. Have also done a number of trips out of Prague, as the Czech trains are very cheap, uncrowded and civilised. Can't wait 'til November.

Apologies to OP and others for rambling on about Prague.

Yes Im about half an hour from Brno, in the woods. Im in the direction of the race track its about a 15 minute dart from my house, Im more into F1 then the MotoGP thats there although they have other races, some Ferrari race next month with Fisichella and Johnny Herbert in it. Agree about Staropramen or Staro Brno beers, its the last I would drink here but its still better then Fosters, Carling or Stella. If you ever get to Brno try Pegas. Its a microbrewery and they do about 4 or 5 beers like light beer, black beer, and a 16 degree which is a strong beer but more for its yeast content I think.

U provaznice was my favourite pub in Prague, especially on Fridays after work to start the night out before going to Lucerna the 80's disco. Its right next to the Mustek metro stop exit closest to the Old Town Square.

Mala Strana is about the nicest place to stay isnt it? I stayed there when I was a tourist. The ghost tours and haunted streets, little side streets in a maze. Its good that you get out too and dont just stick in the city, there is still a good village culture here when you get out and some good old fashioned architecture and hidden castles.

Czechs still stink a bit, for the men they reckon spray is effeminate. But not so much the men below 30. Czechs tend to take showers before bed instead of in the morning as well which doesnt help.

They have Kozel in Liverpool too in the White Star, theyve had Staropramen for years but got Kozel in too about a year ago. There has been some connection since Euro 96 and there is a White Star pub now in Usti nad Labem in the north, Usti is twinned with Widnes though so its not the best place to visit.

Best bar I've been to has to be Banana Bar in Amsterdam, certainly wasn't for the alcohol though... The girls put on a great show.

When I was working, so did I, or at least at the end of the working day, not the start of it.

I thought there was no point having a shower in the morning only to spend the day in a sweaty loft stuffed full of insulation & coal dust, so I had a shower at the end of the day.

Can`t remember the names of the good bars as was always pished when i left them

Thanks for the info re. Brno. I have a contact there who is trying to get us down there for a visit. Will do soon. Never tried U Provaznice, but will have a look in Nov - my 22nd trip there. We always stay in M S in a small hotel, tucked down a quiet side street. M S has all the character and history of Old Town, minus the tourist hordes. Thanks again for the info.

The Sheraton Hotel in Lagos, where they serve chilled Star and Gulder. Not a brilliant bar but I'm usually so hot and traumatised by the traffic when I reach that hotel that the first bottle doesn't even touch the sides.

I'm not normally a Euro-fizz drinker either but in Africa you have to drink cold lagers and they are rather good in Nigeria:

Nice beer - shame about the pee nuts :x

GAIETY BAR BLACKPOOL.
Where I worked in early 80s .
We had Gerry and the pacemakers (mk3) on.

Crap beer- recycled from previous night when Brian the waiter used to collect all 'leftovers' and put them into a bucket to mix with fresh beer the next night-- and sell them on.

Lots of totty though- in fact a different one every night if we wanted (and often did).
Used to have competition to see who could 'thread' the most in a evening :) .

Thought so Richard .....I know you are a compulsive liar but I do believe you went to the gay bars
