I need to replace a door handle but all I'm finding is handles for a door that's a minimum of 35mm thick. My door is only 30mm. What part of the door handle determines the door thickness? Is it something I can easily cut to fit or otherwise modify?
As above, sometimes you need to cut the square bar down.
You may be able to use the old bar though.
Is this an internal door?
If yes and it is a tubular mortice lock, ideally you will buy a handle that has grub screws (prevents the handle being pulled of in the event of the screws failing) and the option of interconnecting screws that go from one side of the door to the other (again, preventing the lock from being pulled off or twisting).
Ah if it's just the bar then I will just reuse the old one as I already cut that the last time I replaced the door handle. I guess I just didn't pay any attention to the specs when I bought the existing handle.
It's just a bathroom door but my husband thinks I should replace it with one that has an integrated lock for the benefit of house guests. The current one is just a cheap plain handle. But the doors in this house are all a bit small compared to modern ones, it seems.
