What Mazda Engine

I have a 2004 Kia Rio 1400 cc, I am told they were fitted with a Mazda Engine, doe any one know what Model Mazda the Engine originated from.
Its a single overhead cam 8 valve lump.
Any info much appreciated.

Mazda B3 engine. But it was 1300 I think, not 1.4.

Fitted to the 323 IIRC.
