My Gem combi boiler has died and I can't decide whether to ask for
Vaillant EcoTEC 824 or 831 replacement.
Old boiler gave DHW max 26.4 Kwh.
824 = 23 max Kwh
831 = 31 max Kwh
Thing is, the HW flow was ok but not great with old boiler, but I never needed to set the temp dial above half way or water was scalding.
Does this suggest that flow limitation is caused by mains pressure, or would I see faster HW flow with the more powerful boiler?
I reckon either one would cope with CH ok - 10 rads in 3 bed EOT.
Thanks for any advice.

We can usually revive Gem boilers.

Although they are getting a little old now they work fine.

You need to measure your water dynamic flow rate.

I think you may find the Gem is only about 24 kW or less heat output.

There is not point putting in a more powerful boiler than is required by a limited mains flow rate.

Really Tony?
I've been told by BG that they can't get the heat exchanger anymore.
That was after the lad replaced the divertor valve first. It was a £210 fixed price repair and I was told they would refund charge if they didn't fix it. Only now they say it can't be fixed and want to keep the money for replacing divertor :eek:
Told boiler was over 15 years old, but it's been fine for 5 years I've had it.
