moved recently and had a look in the consumer unit, can anyone tell me what size the link cables are supposed to be between the mains isolator and rcd, the tails that have been used are 25mm. the link cables look a bit small to me !

Thanks, advice apprieciated

If you mean the tails supplying your CU then it will depend on the size of your main fuse. 16mm² is good for upto an 80A fuse.

Or do you mean tails inside your CU? :?

These will have been supplied with the CU and wouldn't usually be undersized. Can you post a pic?

Hi, thanks for that, they must be ok then, I will try to get my daughter to take a pic, No chance me doing it and putting it on here, takes me hours to get into a PC
Cheers

They are also what is known as Tri-rated cables. they have many many very small conductors in them, rather than the 7 you get in the meter tails.

As a result, tri-rated conductors carry a much higher current for a smaller csa.

Don't worry, the maker should know what they are doing.

Or are you building and configuring your own?

The higher current carrying capacity is down to the 105degC PVC heat resistant insulation used, not because they're multi stranded.

However, to use this type of cable at it's full capacity then you'll require accessories rated to 105degC.

what you say is that they have more strands, that explains why they look small to me ! ( Im just nosey old git that like to see how people have done things, especialy as I recently moved and wanted know what makes the place tick
