What sort of cable is this?

This cable was feeding the light in my hall, it was going from a junction box on the lighting circuit upstairs to the ceiling rose of the landing hall light. My house was obviously owned by a bodger before :D. The cable is 5 core flex, I think it's 2.5mm2. At both ends (junction box, ceiling rose) two conductors had been snipped. I'm just wondering what the intended use of the cable was for, central heating?

It has been replaced with 1.5mm2 T+E.

That's what I thought, I was just up in the loft the other day and saw the junction box and thought the cable was a bit thick as wasn't t+e, so i isolated the circuit and had a look, decided to replace it. Also, while Mr Bodger was at it, he thoughtfully decided to disconnect the CPC for the t+e going to the light switch for the hall light at the junction box where it is terminated
Don't know why he did this but it was stuck up in mid air! And on checking, the junction box connection screws were nice and loose...

bless him, prob disconnected due to a fault, worth checking other places for disconnected CPC's, and prove continuity of the CPC.
