No disrespect meant, but if you do not know what you need to test a particular circuit, then you do not know how to test that circuit and should not be considering doing so.
Testing of circuits can be dangerous and should only be undertaken by people who are fully aware of all the dangers and know and understand how to mitigate those dangers.
Consequently you should either call in someone who does know how to do this, and probably has the equipment required already, or go on a course to learn how to test electrical circuits.
