Hi guys

client got old eye ball fittings in kitchen ceiling and with r80 lamps. they are old and unsightly. I could replace them with equivalent fittings but i'd like to use your experience to see if there are good conversion kits available so that he could have pref 230v or maybe elv lighting with say gu10 lamps and some swiveling or directional capacity

Thanks in anticipation.

Might as well replace the ceiling - if you swap lights that size for 2" torches you'll need loads more, so what with the new holes, new spacing, etc overboarding would be simplest.

Why not replace the lights with something of a the same or slightly larger size, using PL or similar lamps?

I see what you mean BAS about the torches but there are 7 in a relatively small kitchen(over done on the old lighting) I only went to replace his shower and founfd that the whole stud wall behind the enclosure was rotting due to leakage through the grouting in multiple places so I have already hit him for an unexpected cost, He has just redecorated kitchen and did not think ahead so probably a direct replacement for kitchen fittings but seeing if anything else is possible. PL fittings good idea.thanks

what kind of void space are we talking?
as BAS said, something in a PL lamp fitting would be good.. but these often need a 200mm hole and about 150mm space to fit into for the gear..

So, fit a nice new sheet of plasterboard with a light fitting suitable for illuminating the room.

Job done!
