Normally we don't bother collecting up the apples and they end up getting binned, however I've been out with the stepladder and collected 2 carrier bags full. I don't know what sort of apples they are but they eatable, just.

I don't fancy eating apples morning noon and night, and will probably make a crumble or pie with the low quality ones, but what to do with the others? Any tips for long term apple storage, someone told me they are a pita to freeze.

Stewed apple, you can even use the unblemished parts of damaged fruit, keeps well in big glass jars, or small ones that you can treat as apple sauce for roast pork.

If you cook a great big pan of it, the return on your labour is not bad.

Goes well in a crumble, hot with custard or cold with cream or ice-cream.

Yum yum.
